How workspaces and teams fit together
Workspace membership, home teams, departments, roles, and access.
A workspace is the main account boundary in Timeglass. It contains the organization’s people, teams, projects, clients, settings, and work records.
Someone can belong to more than one workspace. Their role, team, rates, and permissions can differ in each one. Switch workspaces from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar.
Members belong to the workspace
A workspace membership connects a person to the organization. It holds their role, the team they record time to, their access, and other workspace-specific settings.
- Owner and Workspace Admin roles have workspace-wide administration.
- Managers have review and management access for assigned teams.
- Members record and review their own work.
- Viewers have read-only access and don’t record time.
Each member records time to a team
The team a member records time to is where their work is normally organized. Team views use this relationship to group people, timesheets, projects, and activity.
Common examples include Sales, Operations, Finance, or Client Services. Each team has its own settings under Settings → Teams, such as its department, timezone, timesheet prep time, and AI instructions.
Departments can group teams
Larger organizations can place teams into departments under Settings → Teams. Departments provide wider reporting and access scopes while each team keeps its own identity.
Access can extend beyond the home team
Where someone records time and what they can access are separate. A manager can sit in Finance while holding review access for several other teams. An administrator can grant access to one team, a department, or the whole workspace.
Workspace visibility settings also control what members can see outside their own team, from team totals to work summaries or full activity details.
