Import projects

Bring projects in from a spreadsheet, PDF, image, or text file.

Import an existing project list from an image, PDF, spreadsheet, CSV, TSV, or text file. Timeglass shows proposed changes before saving them.

Prepare the file

Use one project per row with a header row. Project name is required. Optional columns are Client, Description, Project ID from your current system, Status (Active or Completed), and Budget (hours). The budget should be planned hours, not time already logged.

Start the import

  1. Open Projects & Clients and select Import. It’s there for anyone who can create projects. Admins can also select Import projects under Settings → Import, which adds the projects to the whole workspace.
  2. Drop the file into the dialog or choose it from your computer.
  3. Wait while Timeglass scans the file.

Review the proposal

Changes are grouped as New Projects, Updated Projects, Suggested Projects to Add, Existing Projects, and Not Importing. Check each project’s name, client, description, and budget. Remove anything you don’t want, or select Undo to bring a skipped row back.

Apply the changes

Select Apply with the number of changes, such as Apply 12 Changes. The confirmation reports how many projects were created, updated, and skipped.

Import clients or past time

Settings → Import also imports clients and their rates, activity categories, and time entries logged in another tracker. A time import can create missing projects and clients along the way.

Common questions

What file types can I import?

CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX, TXT, PDF, PNG, JPG, WEBP, HEIC, and HEIF files.

Will it overwrite my existing projects?

It can update projects that already exist instead of duplicating them. Every new and updated project is listed for review, and nothing is saved until you select Apply.

What columns should my file have?

One project per row with a header row. Project name is required. Client, Description, Project ID, Status (Active or Completed), and Budget (hours) are optional.

Can I import past time from another time tracker?

Yes. Admins can go to Settings → Import and select Import time. It reads logged time from Toggl, Harvest, Clockify, or any CSV, and can create missing projects and clients along the way.
