Desktop app
Grant macOS permissions
Required and optional macOS access, plus repair steps.
macOS separates the access Timeglass needs for capture from optional access for meetings and alerts. You can review every permission inside the desktop app.
Required for capture
- Screen Recording: builds your timeline from on-screen activity.
- Accessibility: names entries using window titles and browser addresses.
Optional permissions
- Microphone: adds audio when you record a meeting.
- Notifications: sends pause alerts, recording prompts, and review reminders.
Grant or repair access
- Open Timeglass and go to Settings → Permissions.
- Select Allow beside a permission. If macOS already made a decision, select Open Settings.
- In System Settings → Privacy & Security, turn Timeglass on.
- Restart Timeglass when the permission card asks you to.
Common questions
Which permissions are required?
Screen Recording and Accessibility are required for capture. Microphone and Notifications are optional.
Does Windows need this?
Windows doesn’t ask for Screen Recording or Accessibility. Settings → Permissions still lists Microphone and Notifications as optional, and Microphone follows your Windows privacy settings. On some Linux desktops, the system asks you to allow screenshot access instead.
