Meetings

Meeting detection and recording settings

Detected tools, how recording starts, video, and letting others know.

The desktop app can notice when a call starts, record its audio, add the time to your timeline, and turn it into a transcript and report.

Detected meeting tools

Timeglass recognizes calls in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Slack huddles, FaceTime, Whereby, GoTo Meeting, Discord, and Roam. Calls you join in a browser are detected too.

Choose how recording starts

Open the desktop app and go to Settings → Meetings. Turn on Record meetings, then decide whether to turn on Start automatically.

  • Start automatically off: each time a meeting starts, Timeglass asks Record this meeting? Select Start recording or Skip.
  • Start automatically on: a Meeting detected notice counts down three seconds, then recording begins. Select Stop during the countdown to skip that meeting. On Linux, this appears as a system notification, Meeting recording starts soon, with a Cancel recording button.

During the meeting

Recording stops on its own when the call ends. To end it sooner, select Stop on the meeting notice, or Stop recording in the menu-bar or tray menu.

While it records, you can open the meeting from Meetings to follow a live transcript. See Read a meeting report and transcript.

Record video

When your workspace has meeting video turned on, Settings → Meetings also shows Record video. It records the meeting app’s window so you can watch the meeting back. Meetings in a browser record audio only. Video recording is available on macOS and Windows.

Let others know you’re recording

If your workspace has these notices turned on and Record meetings is on, a Let others know section appears under Settings → Meetings:

  • Show a recording badge on your video: people in the meeting see a small Timeglass badge on your video while you record. It uses Timeglass Camera, which you set up once and then choose as your camera in the meeting app. This option only appears on computers that support Timeglass Camera, and not on Linux.
  • Post a notice in the meeting chat: posts a message when recording starts in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or Slack. Keep the default message or write your own.

A setting marked Managed by your workspace is required by an admin and can’t be turned off.

After the meeting

Timeglass prepares a transcript and report, which you can open from Meetings in the web app or the desktop app. Your connected AI assistant can also pull up the transcript when you ask about the meeting.

Common questions

Will it record a meeting without asking?

Only if you turn on Start automatically under Settings → Meetings in the desktop app. Otherwise Timeglass asks “Record this meeting?” each time, and nothing records until you select Start recording.

How long is the countdown when recording starts automatically?

Three seconds. Select Stop on the Meeting detected notice during the countdown to skip that meeting. On Linux, select Cancel recording on the system notification instead.

Which meeting tools are detected?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Slack huddles, FaceTime, Whereby, GoTo Meeting, Discord, and Roam, including calls joined in a browser.

Can Timeglass tell other people I’m recording?

Yes, when your workspace has it turned on and Record meetings is on. Under Settings → Meetings → Let others know, you can post a notice in the meeting chat in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or Slack. On computers that support Timeglass Camera, you can also show a recording badge on your video. The badge isn’t available on Linux.

Can Timeglass record meeting video?

Yes, when your workspace has meeting video turned on. Turn on Record video under Settings → Meetings. It records the meeting app’s window on macOS and Windows. Meetings in a browser record audio only.

Why don’t I see meeting settings in the desktop app?

Your workspace admin has turned off Record Meetings under Settings → Security → Meeting Recording in the web app. While it is off, desktop apps in the workspace don’t record meetings.
