Set up the MCP connector

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another remote MCP client.

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another remote MCP client to the Timeglass data your account can access.

  1. Open the MCP Connector
    In the web app, go to Settings → MCP Connector, or open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Connect MCP Server. In the desktop app, go to Settings → Help and select MCP Connection.
  2. Choose a connector
    Under Connectors, keep Whole workspace selected to give the assistant everything you can see. To keep it to one customer, select Add client, search for the client, and select its row.
  3. Follow the steps for your assistant
    Choose ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Other. Each tab names the settings page to open in that assistant. Copy the URL shown in the steps when the assistant asks for it. For Other, add a remote MCP server using Streamable HTTP and choose OAuth. No API key or headers are needed.
  4. Sign in and approve
    The assistant opens a Timeglass page. Sign in, then select Authorize. Finish in the same browser window the assistant opened, within an hour of starting.
  5. Use it in a chat
    In ChatGPT, find it under + → More. In Claude, turn it on under + → Connectors.

Whole workspace or one client

Each connector has its own URL. Use the copy button on a row to copy that connector’s URL.

  • Whole workspace reaches everything your Timeglass account can see, and the assistant can make changes when you ask it to.
  • A client connector only covers that client’s projects, the work assigned to them, and meetings linked only to them. It is read-only, so the assistant can’t make changes.

Client rows show Connected once an assistant is using them, or Not connected yet. A client connector you added but haven’t connected yet is only remembered in that browser or desktop app.

What the assistant can do

The assistant signs in as you and follows your Timeglass permissions, so it can only reach data your account is allowed to access. With the whole-workspace connector, it can also act on your behalf:

  • Add, edit, hide, and delete time entries. Entries added for someone else start as pending.
  • Create and update projects, clients, and activity categories.
  • Import historical time from a Toggl, Harvest, or Clockify CSV export. This is limited to workspace admins.

If the connection doesn’t complete

A Connection not completed page means the setup was started in a different browser, took longer than an hour, or was canceled. Start connecting again from your assistant and finish in the same browser window it opens.

Disconnect or remove a connector

To disconnect, remove Timeglass from the assistant’s connector or app settings. To remove a client row that isn’t connected yet, hover over it and select the remove button.

Common questions

Which assistants are supported?

Timeglass includes setup steps for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Any other assistant that supports remote MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth can connect too.

Where is the MCP connector in the desktop app?

Open Settings → Help → MCP Connection. In the web app it’s under Settings → MCP Connector.

Can the assistant see more than I can?

No. It signs in as you and follows your Timeglass permissions, so it can only reach data your account is allowed to access.

Can my assistant change my timesheets?

Yes, when you ask it to and you’re using the Whole workspace connector. It can add, edit, hide, and delete time entries and create or update projects, clients, and categories. Entries added for someone else start as pending.

Can I limit an assistant to one client?

Yes. In the MCP Connector, select Add client, choose the client, and use that row’s URL. It only sees that client’s projects, work, and meetings, and it can’t make changes.

Why do I see “Connection not completed”?

Setup must be finished in the same browser window the assistant opens, within an hour. Start connecting again from your assistant and finish in that window.

How do I disconnect an assistant?

Remove Timeglass from the assistant’s connector or app settings.

Does the connector cost extra?

Timeglass doesn’t charge a separate fee for the connector. Your questions run on your own ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini plan.
